The Settlers Usage Of Coat Hooks

In the old days before people had closets, they had coat hooks and coat racks. A settler would walk in their open space cabin and remove their old dusty boots right at the door and place their dusty coats on the nearby hooks. This the way things were and nobody knew any better about placing coats in closets or in mud rooms or anything of the nature. But you can be certain that the idea for a coat room or mud room came up from the many mad housewives that spent all day cleaning and sweeping their cabin only to have their husband come home from working on the field and treading dust and mud all through the house. That being said the hook still hasn’t lost it’s appeal or place in the home, in fact they are more popular then ever. But they don’t usually hang around the front door anymore. They are found in mud rooms, and closets and other places away from sight.
